What kind of IV is given for dehydration?

For rehydration, the standard IV is sterile saline, usually with electrolytes such as sodium, potassium and chloride.

Water alone replaces fluid but not the electrolytes lost through heat, exertion, illness or alcohol, which is why a hydration drip replaces both together. At I IV Hydration & Wellness, that is the Base Hydration Drip: medical-grade saline with a balanced electrolyte panel and no added vitamins, given by a licensed Registered Nurse in a session of about 45 to 60 minutes.

This is a wellness service for everyday dehydration after travel, heat, long days or physical activity. It is not a treatment for any medical condition, and severe dehydration is a matter for a physician or an emergency department. Clients with chronic medical conditions, cardiac concerns or fluid-restriction recommendations should consult their physician before booking. Details are on the Base Hydration Drip page.
